The on-the-water action will be nonstop next week, when Hap Fauth and his team aboard Maxi 72 Bella Mente take on some heavy hitters in the Maxi division at Les Voiles de St. Barth. Racing will take place Tuesday (4/14), Wednesday (4/15), Friday (4/17) and Saturday (4/18), during which time the team, along with the rest of the 80-boat fleet (to-date), will compete in a variety of challenging coastal courses that weave through and around the reefs and smaller islands surrounding St. Barth.

Practice for Bella Mente Racing starts Saturday, April 11 and goes through Monday, April 13.

Bella Mente Racing currently holds the lead position (corrected time) in IRC Z, IRC Overall and CSA Overall as it goes into the latter half of the 2015 RORC Caribbean 600. The team is approximately 280 miles into the 600-mile coastal race and sailing south toward Guadeloupe at a speed of 11.4 knots. The leg around the island of Guadeloupe is known for casting a wind shadow, which can be a game changer for competitors. The team’s goal is to make it around with as little loss as possible.

The 2015 RORC Caribbean 600 started off Fort Charlotte, Antigua on Monday February, 23. The 600-mile course circumnavigates 11 Caribbean Islands starting from Fort Charlotte, English Harbour, Antigua and heads north as far as St Martin and south to Guadeloupe taking in Barbuda, Nevis, St Kitts, Saba and St Barth.

After concluding a four-day practice session in Fort Lauderdale last week, Bella Mente returned to Cracker Boy Boat Works in West Palm Beach on Thursday evening, where the team hoisted the hull out of the water and pulled the rig to preserve it for the 2015 campaign. From now until mid-January, the team will be making some final updates to the boat to ensure that it is race ready for Quantum Key West Race Week later that month.

The original Bella Mente Racing campaign kicked off in 2006 with Key West Race Week, and since then owner and skipper Hap Fauth has had three additional racing yachts in the program.
Launched in September of 2018, the current Bella Mente is a Maxi 72 designed by Botin Partners in Spain and built by New England Boatworks in Rhode Island.
