Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound will see some epic battles over the next five days when Bella Mente Racing and three other Maxi 72s take to its waters to compete in the NYYC Annual Regatta presented by Rolex. There is a lot on the line for the teams, as the event is doubling as the class’ first-ever North American Championship.
Bella Mente Racing, led by owner/driver Hap Fauth, has been practicing off Newport, R.I. since Monday to prepare. The team will be going head-to-head against George Sakellaris’ Proteus, Alex Schaerer’s Caol Ila R and Dieter Schoen’s MOMO.
Racing begins tomorrow with a separately scored race around Conanicut Island. Official racing for the title of North American Champion, will take place Saturday (June 11) through Tuesday (June 14).
