After four days of practice in Porto Cervo, Bella Mente Racing kicked off the Mini Maxi Rolex World Championship today with second place (corrected time) in the event’s signature coastal race.

“With a mistral to the west and a big low pressure to the east I had high expectations for plenty of wind today,” said Bella Mente Racing’s Navigator Ian Moore adding that the breeze was much lighter than expected (between 6-12 knots). “The team did a good job to hold their nerve through some tough spots on the course.”
The team’s Crew Boss Mike Sanderson added that forecasters had a large wind prediction, from six to 40 knots, making it hard to pick sail inventory for the day.
“Today was always going to be a tough one,” added Sanderson. “The race was just a war of attrition, and I think every boat out there had their turn feeling like they were first or last at some point. In the end, Alegre had the best day with a well-deserved win. Overall, it was a solid day for the Bella team as our aim was for top three.”
The team will continue racing through Saturday (September 6) with windward leeward courses planned for tomorrow (Tuesday, September 2).
